Baurs remains committed to the development of Sri Lanka.
Over its 120 years existence in Sri Lanka, Baurs has contributed
to the development of rural areas and supported charity
organisations. Since 2001 Baurs has been importing school
furniture donated by schools in the Canton of Zurich. They are
being distributed mostly in rural areas where Baurs is committed
to the upliftment of facilities for the population in those areas.
Also handicapped schools have been supported. Since the inception
of this project over 200 forty-foot containers have been imported.
The transport costs were borne by A. Baur & Co. (Private) Limited.
Apart from the school furniture, Baurs is currently
allocating a considerable amount from its net profit for
charity.
Our thanks go to the many schools and organizations in Switzerland
who have assisted us in our project as well as to the forwarding
agent who stored the furniture at his expense. We also thank the
authorities in Sri Lanka who have assisted us with their
goodwill.
In 2021 Baurs has committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
